Cross References

From Scripture Topical Guide

Jump to: navigation, search

Cross References are a relatively recent addition to the Scripture Topical Guide. They were developed as a method of indicating related subjects. A cross reference is simply a link to a subject.

Cross references are always listed alphabetically (in the same order that the subjects are sorted in).

Adding a Cross Reference

To add a cross reference, right click on the subject (in the left-hand tree view) that you want to have the cross reference and select "Add Cross Reference" from the pop-up menu. A dialog box will then come up. Start typing in the name of the subject you want to cross reference (in the text field labeled "Subject") and the program will generate and update a list of subjects that match your search as you type. (Note: Leave articles such as "the", "a", and "an" off the beginning of the subject.) When you see the subject you want in the list, simply select it and click on the "OK" button. The cross reference will then be added.

Removing a Cross Reference

To remove a cross reference, simply right click on the cross reference (in the tree on the left-hand side) and select the item from the pop-up menu which begins with "Remove Cross Reference:".

Weakness

One weakness to the cross reference system is that the Scripture Topical Guide does not currently update cross references when subjects are deleted or renamed.
