Export to HTML

From Scripture Topical Guide

Jump to: navigation, search

In order to export the topical guide to HTML, start up the program, then, in the menu bar, select File > Export to HTML. This will open up a dialog box which will allow you to select the folder in which to create the HTML version of your Topical Guide. We recommend choosing an empty folder specially designated exclusively for the HTML version of your topical guide, as the exported HTML constitutes multiple files.

Once you've chosen a folder for the HTML, the program will ask you if you would like private information to be included in the export. Notes and citations can be marked as private, (when editing a note or a citation, simply check the box next to the word "Private") if you feel they are not for public perusal. If the exported HTML is for your own personal use (perhaps to print out), then you may want to include private notes and citations. However, if the HTML is being generated for a public web page, then you will probably not want to include such private information.

Once you've chosen whether or not to include private data, the HTML will be generated.

The Generated HTML

The generated HTML is extremely generic and is designed to be customized with a style sheet. (An internal link to a style sheet, styles.css is included in the generated HTML.) Without any style sheet, the generated documents are flat, dull, and monotonous, which effectively makes them difficult to decipher.

A good default style sheet is included with the program and can be copied into the same folder as the generated HTML. For information on customizing the look and feel of the HTML, check out the Exported HTML Style Guide.
