Talk:Features

From Scripture Topical Guide

Some features which I'm considering adding or have begun work on adding are:

  1. Export to Wiki markup (probably on a subject by subject basis)
  2. Full text search
    • I have a citation I made and want to duplicate under another subject, but I can't remember what subject I originally cited it under.
    • Unfortunately, since the system is currently built on XML, and I'm no expert in coding search engines, I anticipate searches to be inefficient/relatively slow. (Still, faster and more convenient than searching by hand.)
  3. Offline documentation.
    • Just need to write the content (here first) and then organize it for javahelp.
  4. Encryption of private citations/notes. -23:13, 23 September 2007 (MST)
  5. Have cross-chapter scripture references use scripture.lds.org's reference search feature to get all the text onto one page. -10:27, 3 October 2007 (MST)
  6. Update the tree to allow it to forget the labels and structure of closed (saved) subjects. (to prevent running out of memory) -12:06, 18 October 2007 (MST)
  7. When exporting to HTML check for existing style sheets in the folder and dynamically link them all if they exist. -12:03, 19 November 2007 (MST)
  8. Timestamp added/updated citations/notes. -12:03, 19 November 2007 (MST)

Many people like keeping notes with the running text in scriptures and other documents. I have no plans to implement such a thing. I highly recommend Feast Upon the Word for some such notes. They're an odd bunch, but I think the concept of what they've done is fantastic and even a great resource. If I have a significant insight, or find a fantastic resource relative to a specific passage, I tend to try to add it there.

I am considering the practicality of adding a second way of organizing subjects by category, which might aid in generating javahelp from the scripture topical guide. (That might only be practically useful for less gospel-oriented topical guides, however. Still, the alternate organization might be otherwise useful.)
